Lyndia Complete

There has been a lot of questioning about this painting. I suppose most paintings go through
that. There are infrequent times when the brush and paint do the work almost all by themselves but that so seldom happens that I don't particularly look for it or feel disappointment when it doesn't happen. Nothing about this painting seemed simple or easy until I decided to take a leap and put in those background mountains. They fell into place. Touching up the front mini-waves also went smoothly. I spent thursday afternoon carefully observing small waves and photographing them. Then I rode back the 5km to my home dinging my bicycle bell the whole way hoping to scare off the black bear that had crossed my path on the way down to the bay:-)
Lyndia gets her painting this week and now I am free to think about the next one - Samanda I think!

  2. A bicycle bell to scare off a black bear?! You are one brave woman!!

I can't tell you how much I love this painting, there's something about it that just captivates me. i especially love it with the mountains in the middle and part of her on either side. it's so beautiful and a fantastic concept. :)

  3. Thank you Suzanne and Crystal! As for the bear, they do not normally attack people unless threatened or you come between a mama and her cubs, although down in the Sooke area a couple of unprovoked attacks from bears have recently occurred. The people involved may have appeared aggressive or frightening somehow to the bears. When I reported my encounter to the RCMP dispatcher I made it clear that I do NOT want them to try to find the bear and shoot it, which sometimes happens. We are encroaching on THEIR territory, not the other way around.

  4. Such an intriguing concept! Love the idea of two separate halves making the whole and yet....being independent of one another. Awesome piece of work!

  5. What a great achievement Karen! Love the split canvas / personality too.
Thought Lyndia was a huge canvas, yet checked your older posts and appears average.
Thanks for checking out my blog and my donut wars with Kelley - been fun.
And yes, I was a dancer for 18 years - professionally for 13 - and dug creating / designing my costumes. Miss it for was a huge part of my life, yet always wanted to be an Artist since I was 10.
    Nice to meet you!

  8. I'm humbled by this Karen. There is so much there that, as you described, just fell into place and worked, perfectly!, First splitting the canvas sent me reeling. Brilliant! The palette, the water, the scarf, the features. I think I can honestly say that this is one of my favorite paintings. It's on my desert island top ten. Bravo!
